I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m a Marvel fan girl and this movie was worth the wait in my humble opinion. From a movie stand point, and I’m not going to gush about this cause it’s Marvel, it’s way better than batman vs superman. Like most of my movie reviews it’s going to be spoiler free. Cause I want people to see this, but I want people to know what I thought, and I want to post some content.
So basically this movie did a few things right that a lot of other movies haven’t done. And them doing it right is wrong. See this is an all star cast of the Marvel Cinematic universe. We have everyone but Thor and Hulk, and the sooner we drop Hulk the better. But because it has so many people in it this isn’t really a “Captain America” movie. It’s an Avengers movie, and I complained in the first Avengers movie that Rhodes should have shown up when the national guard was mobilized, unless they said Rhodes was busy dropping a tank at a general’s doorstep or something. It should have been a all hands on deck moment.
And that’s really the problem with Marvel comics. You have to be insane to do anything in New York City. You have Spidey, Daredevil, Cloak & Dagger, Moon Knight, Defenders, New Warriors, X-men, Fantastic Four, power pack, Avengers, Heroes for Hire, Doc Strange and Deadpool. It’s a cluster of stepping all over themselves to fight crime. Metropolis for years was patrolled by one guy and he did a good job. Then they added in Steel and Super Girl… I think I don’t actually care about D.C. Comics.
So when something big happens you would have all these heroes crawling out of the woodwork’s to solve a problem. New York should be the safest city in the entire marvel universe. So when they assembled and had Black Panther, Spidey and the others I wasn’t surprised.
And let’s talk about how big it is that we got Spidey. Thank the gods Marvel can now start using this property again. Not because Sony was doing bad with it, but because they weren’t doing great with it either. I liked Tobey’s 1st and 3rd movie, mostly, and the 1st Garfield one but they didn’t blow me away like Iron Man. Which I gave a 4 out of 5. So now in theory we can start seeing more cross overs. Marvel already has the rights back for Ghost Rider, thank gods, and I’m pretty sure they have Daredevil and Elektra, which I could care less about Elektra, mostly cause of the Frank Miller taint. I really want them to get back Fantastic Four and the X-men. Mostly because I hate Fox studios. And the guy they got to be spidey. Great choice. He had the right energy and talkativeness to be Parker.
But a huge cast of characters in a movie would be a bad idea. But in certain cases it makes sense. You have to develop them as characters and flesh them out. If you throw a dozen people on screen without some development they’re just worthless characters, IE X3, and you could care less whose who.
I’m not a Black Panther fan, he just never really did anything for me in the comics, but I loved his suit in this movie. I’m kinda indifferent to the actor with Chris Evans and RDJ, they’re no Hemsworth but they’re not bad in their own way. Oh the timber of Boseman was good, and I liked him in Fringe and he’s not bad on the eyes either, but I don’t know he looked to stuffy. Probably cause he’s playing royalty. Where as Thor, Tony and Cap are all guys who could laugh and tell jokes and just hang out with. I honestly couldn’t think of anyone else to play Black Panther, mostly cause I just don’t know a lot of African actors.
There are parts in the movie that don’t make much sense, I won’t give spoilers away but I caught them and immediately was wondering if they were going to just gloss them over or address them in the bits they cut to shorten the film.
The one thing I really noticed in this film is how old RDJ and Chris Evans look. If that’s because they’re actually aging in real life/marvel universe, or because the stresses of being avengers has taken it’s toil. Personally in the cinematic universe I’d put it down to the toil of being heroes. If being the President of the US is tiring think about being a super hero and knowing how many lives you can and will save and how many you can’t save but will still try.
But yeah, you should go see this film. It’s good, and I’m really really debating adding another 4 star movie to my list of movies. I’ll probably go back again to see if just to see how good it is. Something I didn’t do with BvS… cause gods that was a turd.
